AWANJO COMPANY
Awanjo, which means “We Can Dance” was born from a desire to uplift cultural heritage, empower local talent, and challenge global perceptions of African performance art. Since its inception, the company has cultivated a distinctive artistic voice rooted in rhythm, resistance, and revival. With each piece, Awanjo pushes the boundaries of dance as both an art form and a tool for social change.
The company is composed of versatile dancers, choreographers, and storytellers trained in diverse movement styles, from Bata and Atilogwu to Afro-fusion, street dance, and contemporary technique. Their performances explore themes of identity, spirituality, resilience, and revolution, often accompanied by live drumming, spoken word, and visual elements.
Over the years, Awanjo Dance Company has graced stages across Nigeria and internationally, performing in festivals, cultural exchanges, schools, and theatrical spaces. They also host workshops, community outreach projects, and mentorship programs to nurture the next generation of dance artists in Africa.
With a bold vision and a deep reverence for tradition, Awanjo continues to ignite the stage with passion, purpose, and unprovoked performance.

At Awanjo, we move with purpose not just to perform, but to preserve, provoke, and push the culture forward. Every step we take is intentional, every rhythm a reflection of our roots, and every stage we touch becomes a canvas for bold storytelling. We are more than dancers, we are cultural architects, moving in defiance, in healing, and in truth.
